Job summary

The Illinois Department of Corrections seeks a Chaplain I to oversee the holistic spiritual development and full-spectrum religious support for all faiths within the facility. This role focuses on counseling, worship services, and coordination with care teams to support inmates and staff.

Applicants must hold a Master of Divinity, be ordained or endorsed, and have pastoral care experience in institutional settings.

Qualifications

• Four years of college completed, plus three years of seminary study toward an MDiv.
• Ordination or ecclesiastical endorsement required.
• One year of pastoral care experience in an institutional setting.
• One or more units of accredited clinical pastoral education.

Responsibilities

• Provides religious services for all faiths and denominations.
• Prepares reports and correspondence for chaplaincy activities.
• Conducts individual and group counseling with individuals in custody.
• Prepares and conducts religious services and rites weekly.
• Meets with program leadership to review chaplaincy activities.
