Position Purpose and Summary

Provides patients, family members, and hospital staff with emotional, pastoral, spiritual, and sacramental support and guidance to assist them through periods of stress, crisis, or anxiety. Visits assigned patients, accepts referrals, documents care and support provided, and participates in educational programs. May offer prayer or reflection based on the patient's life experience. Assists patients in understanding their life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.

Education and Experience
  • Completion of a curriculum of theological classes and demonstrated skills in pastoral care.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Theology, religious studies, education, counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training preferred.
  • In good standing with the Church via ecclesiastical endorsement.
  • Sensitivity and stamina to minister to patients with varying physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Flexibility in work hours, programs, and services.
  • Sensitivity and desire to work with patients, families, clergy, and volunteers of diverse faith backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of and support for the "Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services."
  • Experience working as part of a team and good communication skills.
