Job summary

Lighthouse Hospice NJ is seeking a Part-Time Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and families across Mercer, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties. The role involves interfaith care, grief support, and collaboration with the care team in a hospice setting.

Ideal candidates hold seminary or theology degrees, with CPE and hospice experience preferred. The position offers up to 20 hours per week with a supportive, mission-driven team and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv, or equivalent).
• Minimum of one unit of CPE strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working in interfaith settings and diverse beliefs.
• Experience in hospice, hospital, or community health setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess spiritual and emotional needs of patients and families with the care team.
• Provide spiritual counseling, comfort, and guidance for all faiths.
• Offer grief and bereavement support during and after hospice journey.
• Collaborate with Program Director and care team to coordinate spiritual care.
• Communicate with hospice staff and partners to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain timely documentation per regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Assess and address the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and families as part of the interdisciplinary care plan.
• Provide spiritual counseling, comfort, and guidance for individuals and families of all faiths and belief systems.
• Offer grief and bereavement support throughout the hospice journey and following loss.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and care team to coordinate spiritual care and ensure holistic, compassionate support.
• Communicate effectively with hospice staff and community partners to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulatory standards and agency policies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv, or equivalent theological degree), or appropriate certification in pastoral ministry strongly preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working in interfaith settings and able to accept diverse beliefs.
• Experience providing spiritual care in a hospice, hospital, or community health setting is strongly preferred.
• Must have the ability to handle stress associated with ministering to patients/residents and their loved ones who experience pain, suffering, death, and grief.
• Must be computer proficient in typing and various programs, including a background in EMR.
• Current driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to dependable transportation.

Salary

$31.00 - $33.00 per hour (Average Pay Range). The pay range listed represents a general guideline for the role and is not a guarantee of the final offer. Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate’s relevant experience and the specific responsibilities of the position. Final compensation rate will be discussed and confirmed at the conclusion of the interview process.
