Job Description: Chaplain

The Chaplain is a member of the interdisciplinary team, focusing on the spiritual needs of patients, families, caregivers, and staff, including volunteers. The chaplain provides pastoral care interventions, including pastoral counseling, based on spiritual assessments, the specific setting, and sensitivity to various values, beliefs, and religious orientations. The chaplain strives for excellence in pastoral care, requiring an authentic demeanor, compassion, and skill in dealing with the spiritual aspects of illness, loss, and death.

Qualifications

• Qualified candidates must have Ordination or Commission to serve in pastoral care and be endorsed and in good standing with their faith body.
• Five years of pastoral experience preferred, with at least two years in a clinical setting.
• Minimum of 1 unit (400 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by organizations such as the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education; two or more units preferred.
• Equivalencies to CPE may include: clinical pastoral educational experience with supervision, peer group participation, and theological reflection; certifications such as AAMFT, AAPC, or AMHC; or a DMin or other accredited graduate degree in pastoral care.
• Knowledge and skill in managing the spiritual dynamics of illness, loss, and death.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.

Education

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
• Master's of Divinity or equivalent graduate degree from an ATS-accredited seminary or theological school required.
