Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Flex Chaplain to provide compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare staff within a mission-driven health system. In this per diem role, you will collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other professionals to honor beliefs and support healing, grief, and meaningful life moments.

The position requires a Master’s Degree in Divinity/ Theology/ Ministry, and Board Certification within three years of hire,

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Divinity, Theology, Ministry from an accredited program.
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required.

Responsibilities

• Attends interdisciplinary team conference, support meetings, and other meetings as appropriate.
• Assesses patient, family member, and caregiver spiritual needs in consultation with the team.
• Provides direct chaplaincy services to patients, families, and caregivers of different spiritual perspectives.
• Consults with patient’s clergy and advices them on admission when requested.
• Documents visits and calls in the EMR in a timely manner.
• Provides consultation, counsel, and support to other team members as appropriate.
• Assists with training programs and in-service education as requested.

Job description

• Functions as a member of the team by attending interdisciplinary team conference, support meetings, and other meetings as appropriate
• Assesses each patient, family member, and caregiver for spiritual needs and concerns in consultation with other team members
• Provides direct chaplaincy services (when accepted) to patients, family members, and caregivers of different philosophies and religious perspectives
• Consults, if requested by patient or family, the patient’s clergy of choice and advises them on admission
• Documents all visits and phone calls in the electronic medical record within an appropriate time frame
• Provides consultation, counsel, and support to other team members as appropriate
• Assists with training programs and in-service education as requested

• Hours: This is a Flex position (per diem, hours as needed). Non-benefits eligible.
• Hours will vary based on department staffing needs
• Required Experience: Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Ministry, or a related field.
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education Required
• Ordination, Commissioning, or Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a recognized religious organization.
• Board Certified Chaplain (Association of Professional Chaplains) within three years of hire
