Job Title: Chaplain

Salary Range: $72,000.00 - $72,000.00 Annual

The above reflects the anticipated salaried range for this position if hired to work.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Staff Chaplain is responsible for the delivery of spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and as hospital staff. The chaplain will have the responsibility of ensuring that the religious and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones are met in the areas to which they are assigned. The Staff Chaplain will report to the Director of Spiritual Care.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Master’s Degree in Theology/Divinity or Equivalent
  • Proficient in Windows based office software
  • Must be a Board Certified or BCC eligible Chaplain with any of the following organizations:
    • Association of Professional Chaplains,
    • National Association of Catholic Chaplains
    • National Association of Jewish Chaplains

Preferred:

  • Excellent communication and pastoral skills
  • High degree of emotional energy and mental alertness, and ability to deal with stress of ministering to patients and loved ones who experience pain, suffering, death and grief
  • Demonstrates organizational and decision making skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to utilize word processing programs

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in delivering and arranging for appropriate spiritual care to patients, their loved ones and staff throughout the hospital,
  • Actively participate in the delivery of spiritual care adhering to the departmental policies and standards of practice and ethics according to their board certifying organization,
  • Respond to requests for spiritual care in a timely manner
  • Follow a triage response to emergency situations as well as referrals and consults
  • Proactively round on assigned units, performing spiritual assessments and interventions
  • Educate and execute Advance Care planning documentation with patients
  • Documents all patient visits in Epic according to department procedure
  • Support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care
  • Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary rounds
  • Serve on institutional committees as appointed
  • Promote a team-centered approach to spiritual care among all chaplains, students and volunteers in the department
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor to help mentor clinical pastoral education students
  • Provide educational opportunities about elements of spiritual care to students and staff as requested
