Job summary

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center seeks a Chaplain to provide spiritual counseling and compassionate care for patients, families, and staff within a hospital setting. Responsibilities include documenting care plans, advocating for spiritual needs, and educating on resources and ethics.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in theology/pastoral care with endorsement approval.
• Completion of 4 ACPE units of CPE in an ACPE-accredited hospital.
• Board Certification as Chaplain APC within 24 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care to patients, families, and staff.
• Maintain documentation of spiritual care interventions in patient charts and related activities.
• Advocate for patient rights regarding spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial values in care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and committees; support inter- and intra-departmental projects.
• Educate patients and families about spiritual resources, ethics, organ donation, and directives.

Education

Master's degree in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling, Divinity, OR a Master's degree recognized by the endorser for minority religious groups (must provide letter of approval for degree from endorser)

Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units of CPE (1600 hours) in an accredited ACPE hospital center

Board Certified Chaplain APC, within 24 - months of hire

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff.

Every day, you will provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain. You'll need the proven ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

• Maintains accurate documentation in patient charts regarding spiritual care interventions, plans, and outcomes. Maintains accurate records of other spiritual care activities related to community, family, and staff care

• Advocates for patient rights in regard to spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial values and how they impact a patient and their support system response to their care

• Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by participating in team meetings and rounds; includes inter- and intra-departmental projects and committees as assigned

• Provides education to patients and families about spiritual resources, advance directives, organ and tissue donation, ethics, and other spiritual issues that may arise

• Participates in ritual, worship, and sacramental needs of patients, family and staff

• Provides spiritual care to staff and serves as professional spiritual care resource and fosters a sense of spirituality in the workplace throughout the medical center

Job Requirements

Required
