Job summary

CHI Mercy Health in Roseburg, OR is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual, religious, and existential care to patients, families, and staff as part of the hospital care team. You will offer compassionate presence, facilitate appropriate rituals, and advocate for diverse beliefs while collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues to integrate holistic care and support during crises and bereavement.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's in Theology or related field; Masters and Board

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Behavioral Science, Ministry or a related field.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Board Certified Chaplain preferred.
  • Catholic Chaplain preferred.
  • Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides pastoral care and supports patients, residents and family members during illness, injury, loss or grief.
  • Provides spiritual/religious resources appropriate to the care of patients, families and staff.
  • Triage and manages crises in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Facilitates reflective practice in spiritual care.
  • Formulates and utilizes spiritual assessments to contribute to plans of care.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff.

Every day, you will provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain. You'll need the proven ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Provides pastoral care and supports patients, residents and family members during a period of illness, injury, loss or grief.
  • Provides spiritual/religious resources appropriate to the care of patients, families and staff.
  • Triages and manages crises in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Facilitates logical reflection in the practice of spiritual care.
  • Formulates and utilizes spiritual assessments in order to contribute to plans of care.
Job Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Behavioral Science, Ministry or a related field
Preferred
  • Masters Degree
  • One (1) year of experience as a Healthcare Chaplain in a hospital and/or long-term care facility
  • Board Certified Chaplain
  • Catholic Chaplain
  • Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education
