Job summary

LIFE Saint Joseph of the Pines in Fayetteville, NC, is seeking a Chaplain to deliver compassionate spiritual care in a hospital/patient-care setting. This full-time role is 32 hours per week and integrates spiritual care into the overall care experience.

You will assess needs, provide interventions, facilitate interfaith services, and collaborate with the Spiritual Care Manager to support patients, families, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Theology, Religion, Spirituality, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1–3 years of Spiritual Care experience, including CPE training.
  • Board Certification strongly preferred (APC, CASC, NACC, NAJC).
  • Ability to develop programs supporting spiritual needs across diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transformative Spiritual Care experiences, honoring the diverse beliefs and values of those served.
  • Assess spiritual and religious needs, offer appropriate interventions, and document assessments, care, and outcomes.
  • Participate in ethics consultation processes when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Spiritual Care Manager to evaluate and improve care practices.
  • Educate and support colleagues in recognizing and responding to spiritual distress.
  • Facilitate interfaith or faith‑specific prayer, meditation, worship, and sacraments, sometimes in partnership with community clergy.
  • Promote programs that enhance workplace spirituality and maintain sacred spaces.
  • Commit to ongoing self‑care, growth, and spiritual formation.

The Chaplain provides compassionate Spiritual Care within St Mary, supporting the spiritual and emotional well‑being of patients, residents, participants, families, and colleagues. This role focuses on spiritual distress, grief support, crisis intervention, and guidance during major life changes. As a key member of the inter‑professional care team, the Chaplain ensures the spiritual dimension of healing is integrated into the overall care experience.
