Job summary

Suncrest Hospice in Akron, OH seeks a Chaplain to provide spiritual support and resources to patients and families, reflecting the CHAP-certified hospice mission. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to meet diverse spiritual needs and attend care conferences.

Required BD/MDiv or theology degree, 3 units of CPE, and prior chaplain experience; interfaith setting experience and reliable driving are essential. Competitive pay, benefits, and growth opportunities accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Certificate of graduation from an accredited seminary or school of theology.
• One year of chaplain experience preferred.
• Experience working with death and the dying and families/caregivers.
• MDiv or Masters in Theology required; 3 units of CPE.
• Ability to work as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and families.
• Serve as liaison to community chaplains and spiritual counselors.
• Maintain accurate records of spiritual care services and activities.
• Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Provide funeral or memorial services as requested.
• Supervise spiritual care volunteers when assigned.

Details

The Chaplain provides spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and their families. They provide compassionate services to a diverse population encompassing all faiths that are represented by patients, families, and team members, while at the same time, reflecting the mission and philosophy of Suncrest.

Qualifications

• Certificate of graduation from an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv or equivalent theological degree), or a degree in pastoral care, or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
• One year of chaplain experience preferred
• Experience working with death and the dying, as it relates to patients and their families/caregivers;
• Ability to work as a contributing member of interdisciplinary group
• Comfort level in inter-faith setting
• Minimum of 3 units of CPE; and MDiv or Masters in Theology required.
• Assesses spiritual needs of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and ensures that appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner;
• Serves as liaison and support to community chaplains and spiritual counselors;
• Maintains accurate records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance, program development, and policies and procedures review and revision;
• Attends patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings, providing consultation, education, and support
• Provides for funeral or memorial services for patients as requested;
• Assists with the supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned to patients/families/caregivers;
• Actively participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
