Job summary

LEGO Group seeks a Mold Changeover Technician in the United States, Richmond, VA, to perform mold changeovers and setup on injection molding lines. You will verify mold readiness, connect utilities, and support startup with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Two+ years of experience performing mold changeovers, mold setup, or related technical work in injection molding.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to install and prepare molds for production.
  • Ability to read setup sheets, work instructions, and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mold changeovers on injection molding machines according to work instructions and schedules.
  • Safely remove, transport, install, align, and secure molds using approved lifting devices and cranes.
  • Prepare molds and tooling for installation by verifying cleanliness and readiness for production.
  • Connect and verify mold utilities (water, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, temperature control).
  • Support startup and first-shot validation with Process Technicians and Quality teams.
  • Identify issues affecting safety, quality, or production and escalate as needed.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mold changeovers on injection molding machines in accordance with standardized work instructions, safety procedures, and production schedules.
  • Safely remove, transport, install, align, and secure injection molds using approved lifting devices, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment.
  • Prepare molds and associated tooling for installation by verifying cleanliness, condition, and readiness for production.
  • Connect and verify all mold utilities, including water, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and temperature control systems, ensuring proper operation prior to startup.
  • Perform pre-startup inspections and verify machine and mold setup against established standards and setup documentation.
  • Support first-shot validation and production startup in partnership with Process Technicians, Production, and Quality teams.
  • Identify and communicate tooling, equipment, or setup issues that could impact safety, quality, or production performance, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Complete all required documentation related to mold changes, equipment status, setup verification, and production records accurately and on time.
  • Assist with minor troubleshooting and setup adjustments during startup while coordinating with Maintenance and Process Technicians when additional support is required.
  • Handle molds, tooling, and auxiliary equipment with care while following all established safety and equipment handling procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, SMED, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing changeover time, improving equipment availability, enhancing safety, and increasing first-pass quality.
  • Support equipment commissioning, training activities, and implementation of new processes as required.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for training as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational education preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience performing mold changeovers, mold setup, machine setup, or related technical work within an injection molding manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely install, align, connect, and prepare injection molds for production.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding machines, molds, auxiliary equipment, and utility connections.
  • Ability to read and follow setup sheets, work instructions, technical documentation, and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience using manufacturing execution systems (MES), digital work instructions, or electronic work order systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certification or formal training in injection molding, industrial maintenance, tooling, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other industrial material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SMED, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing systems, robotics, or auxiliary equipment is preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, or startup activities is a plus.
Compensation

The salary for this position has a range of $26.50 - $26.50 based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalisation of the employment offer.
