Job summary

NC State University in Raleigh is seeking a Challenge Course Apprentice to gain leadership, collaboration, and facilitation skills within Wellness and Recreation. You will complete 40 hours of initial training focused on high-course technical skills, safety protocols, and debriefing strategies to become a certified facilitator.

Responsibilities include rigging, belay management, program support for university and external groups, delivering safety instructions, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Eligibility: Current full-time NC State student, demonstrated by enrollment in at least 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate credit hours.
• Certifications: First Aid and Adult CPR/AED certifications should be current or obtained before position commencement.
• Time Commitment: This position requires you to work a minimum of four challenge courses and teambuilding programs per semester.

Responsibilities

• Adherence to Standards: Strictly follow all procedures established by Wellness and Recreation and ACCT for safe operation of all elements.
• Rigging and Belay Management: Learn and execute proper rigging techniques with knots and belay systems.
• Program Support: Co-facilitate team-building and leadership programs for various clients.
• Instruction: Deliver safety orientations, harnessing procedures, and technical instructions for high/low elements.
• Customer Service: Welcome and inform users about facilities, programs, and local area.
• Facilitation Support: Set up and break down activities; educate participants about outdoor recreation and programs.
• Group Processing: Learn facilitation techniques; lead introductory activities and debriefs; manage group dynamics.
• Equipment Maintenance: Clean, dry, inventory, and store gear to maintain longevity.
