Job summary

UMass Boston invites applications for the tenure-system Associate or Full Professor role to serve as Chair of the Exercise & Health Sciences (EHS) Department. The Chair will provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership to advance research, teaching, and community engagement.

The ideal candidate will lead externally funded research, mentor faculty across career stages, and strengthen undergraduate and graduate programs while advancing health equity and urban community partnerships.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in kinesiology, exercise sciences, rehabilitation sciences, behavioral sciences or a related field.
• Preferred: prior leadership roles (e.g., program director, associate chair, division lead) and a sustained program of research with external grant funding.
• Experience teaching and mentoring faculty and students across career stages.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership to advance the Department's mission and vision.
• Maintain an active, externally funded research program and promote scholarly productivity.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and mentor students and faculty.
• Support faculty across career stages, including promotion and tenure; oversee curricula and program development.
• Lead undergraduate and graduate programs and strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations within College and University.
• Oversee departmental operations, including budgets, personnel, and strategic planning; promote inclusive excellence.
