ChristianaCare, the largest healthcare system in Delaware and a national leader in innovation and patient-centered care, is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Physician Executive to serve as Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology and OB/GYN Service Line Leader. This Physician Executive will lead the strategic direction, clinical performance, and growth of the most advanced and comprehensive Women’s Health Service Line in the State.
Position Qualifications:
- Medical Doctorate Degree: M.D. or D.O., accompted by board certification in applicable specialty and ability to obtain licensure in Delaware is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible clinical leadership experience including experience leading direct reports including physicians.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) preferred.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading clinical teams, academic programs, and research initiatives.
Position Highlights:
- Direct the strategic, operational, and clinical excellence of the OB/GYN Service Line across all acute and ambulatory sites offering full spectrum obstetrics and gynecology services.
- Lead a robust and diverse service line comprised of more than 100 OB/GYN clinicians, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of women’s health services.
- Oversee a nationally ranked program recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Hospital for OB/GYN and High Performing Hospital for Maternity Services
- Influence health equity, innovation in care models, and strategic growth initiatives, while fostering collaboration across disciplines and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and execute strategic goals for clinical services in alignment with system-wide priorities.
- Ensure clinical excellence in safety, quality, and patient experience across the service line.
- Lead, mentor, and develop residents, leaders, and a diverse clinical team and foster an inclusive, high-performing culture.
- Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration with nursing, operations, and shared services leaders.
- Advance ChristianaCare’s academic mission through continued support of medical education and research.
- Enhance physician engagement, workforce stability, and retention.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community clinicians and referring providers.
OB/GYN Program Facts:
- Over 7,000 deliveries per year and 100,000+ ambulatory visits annually across OB, GYN, and surgical services.
- Obstetrics Triage/ED with over 20,000 visits annually.
- 3 hospital (1,400 bed) health system with 15 Women’s Health ambulatory practices serving communities throughout DE, MD, PA, and NJ.
- Women’s Center of Excellence COE and Level III NICU with couplet care.
- State-of-the-art 400,000 sq. ft., eight-story tower dedicated solely to women’s and children’s health, featuring private rooms, family sleep spaces, and tranquil rooftop gardens.
- Services include minimally invasive gynecology, urogynecology, and integrated behavioral health and education programming.
- Home to an OB/GYN residency program with 28 residents annually and a strong academic and research infrastructure, including high-impact publications in The New England Journal of Medicine.
