Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to join our laboratory support team. The role performs venipuncture, specimen labeling, and proper handling of samples to support accurate patient testing and safety.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 6 months phlebotomy experience. BLS and ASCP PBT certifications are preferred, with strong English communication and ability to work a flexible, day-oriented schedule.

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy training completed; 6 months experience required.
  • Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred (ASCP).
  • Strong reading, writing and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection accurately.
  • Label specimens correctly and ensure proper tracking.
  • Maintain safety and infection-control practices in the lab.
  • Assist with daily workflow and support laboratory staff.

Job Description:

Schedule: 1400 - 2230 Monday - Friday with every 3rd Saturday 1130-2000, 40 hour week.

Location: 601 East Rollins Street, Orlando, FL 32803

  • Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.
  • Demonstrates understanding and adherence to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
  • Assists with department orientation and trains laboratory staff and students.
  • Mentors new employees and ensures competency documentation is completed.
  • Troubleshoots phlebotomy service concerns and coordinates daily workload assignments.
  • Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a first in - first out basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders.
  • Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly.
  • Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution.
  • Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. [Required]
  • Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment. [Required]
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc. [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English. [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]
  • Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary). [Required]
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
  • Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
Field of Study:
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
Work Experience:
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience [Required]
  • 6 months experience in AdventHealth Lab [Preferred]
Additional Information:
  • N/A
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) [Preferred]
