Job summary

UCAR is seeking a Software Engineer to modernize the CESM ecosystem, targeting performance, memory efficiency, and hardware portability including GPUs. The role interacts with the Community Software Facility and scientific leadership on strategic priorities.

The CGD Laboratory houses ~130 staff and visiting researchers from around the world. Candidates should have a BS in a computer-related field or equivalent experience, plus strong profiling and software analysis skills.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks through profiling, testing and analysis.
• Ability to implement modernization strategies including refactoring and updating libraries.
• Experience with software development processes and design of software components.

Responsibilities

• Participate in enhancing the CESM modeling ecosystem for performance and portability (GPUs).
• Collaborate with team on changes and integration into the model.
• Explore benchmarks and stay current with tools and languages for modernization.
