Job summary

Labcorp in Phoenix, AZ seeks a Certifying Scientist to join our team. Schedule is Thursday–Sunday, 8:00 am–6:30 pm, with duties that include reviewing test results, applying QC, ensuring accuracy, and certifying releases. You will provide consultation, train fellow scientists, and assist with inspections and audits.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. or Master's in a relevant science with clinical testing experience, or a Bachelor's with extensive experience.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemical/biological science or Master's with lab testing experience (2+ years) or Bachelor's with extensive clinical testing (5+ years).
• Preferred LabCorp experience and certifying scientist/toxicology exposure are a plus.
• Familiarity with chromatography/mass spectrometry workflows is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Review test results and QC data, certify and release results to meet quality standards.
• Apply QC practices to interpretation and reporting of results; monitor chain-of-custody.
• Provide technical consultation and assist clients with questions; train staff.
• Advise laboratory staff on routine testing issues and practices; assist with inspections and audits.

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

Work Schedule: Thursday - Sunday 8:00 am - 6:30 pm

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Review all test results for applicable screening and confirmatory testing methodologies, relevant Quality Control data and associated documentation; certify and release results; ensure that results meet quality standards
• Apply QC practices and procedures to the review, interpretation and reporting of results and when applicable monitor chain-of-custody documentation
• Take proper remedial action in response to test systems being out of control limits, detect aberrant results of quality control and takes appropriate action
• Provide consultation and assistance to clients when technical, interpretive, and/or regulatory questions arise
• Assist in training fellow certifying scientists and other LabCorp employees in the interpretation and reporting of results and applicable departmental processes
• Advise/consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices
• Assist in preparation of litigation packages and affidavits. Potential to provide testimony under subpoena
• Assist in preparation for inspections and audits. Interact with inspectors and auditors when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Science OR Master's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 2 years or more of clinical testing OR Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 5 years or more of clinical testing experience

Preferred Qualification

• Current or prior Labcorp experience
• 3 months or more of Certifying Scientist or Toxicology experience
• 6 months or more chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience

Additional Job Standards

• Certifying Scientist and Toxicology experience
• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Excellent research and problem resolution skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
