Job summary

Labcorp in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Certifying Scientist to review screening and confirmatory test results, ensure QC standards, and certify releases. The role involves QC data interpretation, documentation, and client consultations on regulatory questions.

The candidate may train other scientists, assist in audits, and support inspections. Strong experience in clinical testing and advanced degrees are required or equivalent credentials.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s/ Bachelor’s with relevant clinical testing experience.
  • Experience interpreting QC data and documenting results.
  • Experience training staff and interacting with clients on technical topics.

Responsibilities

  • Review test results for screening and confirmatory testing; certify and release results.
  • Apply QC practices to interpretation and reporting of results; monitor documentation.
  • Address out-of-control results and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide consultation to clients on technical, interpretive, regulatory questions.
  • Assist in training fellow scientists and other staff in interpretation and processes.
  • Advise staff on routine testing issues and practices.
  • Assist in preparing litigation packages and affidavits; may provide testimony.

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

Work Schedule

Thursday - Sunday 8:00 am - 6:30 pm

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Review all test results for applicable screening and confirmatory testing methodologies, relevant Quality Control data and associated documentation; certify and release results; ensure that results meet quality standards
  • Apply QC practices and procedures to the review, interpretation and reporting of results and when applicable monitor chain-of-custody documentation
  • Take proper remedial action in response to test systems being out of control limits, detect aberrant results of quality control and takes appropriate action
  • Provide consultation and assistance to clients when technical, interpretive, and/or regulatory questions arise
  • Assist in training fellow certifying scientists and other LabCorp employees in the interpretation and reporting of results and applicable departmental processes
  • Advise/consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices
  • Assist in preparation of litigation packages and affidavits. Potential to provide testimony under subpoena
  • Assist in preparation for inspections and audits. Interact with inspectors and auditors when appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Science OR Master's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 2 years or more of clinical testing
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 5 years or more of clinical testing experience
Preferred Qualification
  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • 3 months or more of Certifying Scientist or Toxicology experience
  • 6 months or more chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience
Additional Job Standards

Certifying Scientist and Toxicology experience In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment Ability to work independently and within a team environment Excellent research and problem resolution skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position Able to pass a standardized color blindness test Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

  • Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
  • Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
