Job summary

Chromalox, part of Spirax-Sarco Engineering, is seeking a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) to inspect welded equipment, parts and assemblies from receiving through final inspection.

Under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, Quality, you will conduct nondestructive inspections, oversee in-process welding inspection, and perform radiographic review to ASME codes. You will maintain logs, coordinate QNDE processes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and quality.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI certification and knowledge of nondestructive and dimensional inspection methods.
• Familiar with ASME, PED, ATEX, NEC, NACE, ANSI, and TEMA codes and related manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and document welded equipment, parts, and assemblies from receiving through final inspection.
• Conduct various nondestructive inspections in the production process and in-process oversight of welding inspections.
• Perform radiographic inspection to ASME Section III, IV, V, VIII, and IX requirements.
• Maintain welder continuity logs and ensure compliance with ASME and DOD standards.
• Coordinate audits and monitor nondestructive evaluation/test processes and personnel.
• Create documentation of compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Cross-train and assist with other lab and quality control functions as needed.
• Support TPM and upkeep of a clean, safe work area.

The Role:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, Quality, inspects and documents welded equipment, parts, and assemblies from receiving through the assembly process up to and including final inspection.

Your Responsibilities:

• Conduct various nondestructive inspections in the production process.
• Provide oversight and in-process inspection of the overall welding inspection processes.
• Perform positive material inspection analysis utilizing radiation-producing equipment.
• Coordinate audits and monitor contracted nondestructive evaluation/test processes and personnel.
• Execute radiographic film review to ASME Section III, IV, V, VIII, and IX requirements.
• Performs daily visual/process audits in manufacturing areas to ensure jobs receive required tests/inspections promptly.
• Perform necessary inspection procedures requiring special set-ups of new or unique equipment and interpretation of test data from various sources.
• Maintain welder continuity log and ensure compliance with ASME and DOD standards.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to develop quality and efficiency improvements.
• Conducts tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Create documentation of compliance with applicable ASME codes and regulations.
• May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on other essential job functions of the department as production needs require.
• Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
• Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
• Support of company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

Requirements:

• Associates degree in Welding Technology or related technical field or two or more years of experience as a Certified Weld Inspector in a manufacturing environment with pressure vessel, piping, pump, fluid transfer, and heat transfer.
• AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Certification.Knowledge of a wide variety of nondestructive and dimensional inspection methods and equipment; ASME, PED, ATEX, NEC, NACE, ANSI, and TEMA code experience and familiarity with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment mfg., welding technology, materials technology, manufacturing methods technology.
• Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and database software and mechanical workmanship standards.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.
• Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
• Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
