Job summary

Chromalox is seeking a skilled Weld Inspector to inspect welded equipment, document quality, and ensure ASME and other codes compliance through nondestructive testing. You will oversee in-process inspection, coordinate audits, and maintain logbooks for welders while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve quality and efficiency.

The role requires an AWS CWI certification, an associate degree in welding or related field (or equivalent experience), and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Welding Technology or related field or 2+ years experience as a Certified Weld Inspector.
• AWS CWI Certification is required.
• Knowledge of ASME, PED, ATEX, NEC, NACE, ANSI and TEMA codes helpful for inspections.
• Proficient with basic computer software and reading documents from drawings and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct nondestructive inspections in the production process.
• Provide oversight of in-process welding inspection procedures.
• Perform radiographic inspection according to ASME sections III, IV, V, VIII, IX.
• Coordinate audits and monitor NDE/test processes and personnel.
• Execute radiographic film reviews to ASME code requirements.
• Maintain welder continuity log and ensure compliance with standards.
• Perform routine inspections and ensure timely testing data is available for production.
• Create documentation to demonstrate compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

The Role

Under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, Quality, inspects and documents welded equipment, parts, and assemblies from receiving through the assembly process up to and including final inspection.

Your Responsibilities

• Conduct various nondestructive inspections in the production process.
• Provide oversight and in-process inspection of the overall welding inspection processes.
• Perform positive material inspection analysis utilizing radiation-producing equipment.
• Coordinate audits and monitor contracted nondestructive evaluation/test processes and personnel.
• Execute radiographic film review to ASME Section III, IV, V, VIII, and IX requirements.
• Performs daily visual/process audits in manufacturing areas to ensure jobs receive required tests/inspections promptly.
• Perform necessary inspection procedures requiring special set‑ups of new or unique equipment and interpretation of test data from various sources.
• Maintain welder continuity log and ensure compliance with ASME and DOD standards.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to develop quality and efficiency improvements.
• Conducts tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Create documentation of compliance with applicable ASME codes and regulations.
• May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on other essential job functions of the department as production needs require.
• Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
• Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
• Support of company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

Requirements

• Associates degree in Welding Technology or related technical field or two or more years of experience as a Certified Weld Inspector in a manufacturing environment with pressure vessel, piping, pump, fluid transfer, and heat transfer.
• AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Certification. Knowledge of a wide variety of nondestructive and dimensional inspection methods and equipment; ASME, PED, ATEX, NEC, NACE, ANSI, and TEMA code experience and familiarity with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment mfg., welding technology, materials technology, manufacturing methods technology.
• Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and database software and mechanical workmanship standards.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.
• Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
• Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
