Job description

The Veterinary Technician assists the veterinarian with office visits and exams, helps maintain the hospital facility, keeping it neat and clean, and, if certified, monitors anesthesia.

Job Requirements/Skills/Physical Demands

An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals and be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide compassionate care for pets
  2. Restrain pets for veterinarians
  3. Assist in setting up and taking x-rays
  4. Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed
  5. Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized patients
  6. Clean cages, runs, and/or hospital facilities, including exam and treatment rooms
  7. Prepare, centrifuge, and read PCV/TS samples, and collect and submit samples
  8. Properly perform a SNAP heartworm test
  9. Accurately perform UA dipstick tests
  10. Demonstrate ability to schedule appointments
  11. Check in patients appropriately
  12. Interact effectively with clients
  13. Document accurate information on patient records
  14. Perform nail trims on canine and feline patients
  15. Accurately pull up IV medications
