POSITION SUMMARY
The technician is a vital role at Maricamp Animal Hospital; responsible for the safe care of all animals coming into the clinic. The person in this role will assist during medical examinations and evaluations, and act as a liaison to clients and patients, as well as deliver timely and accurate information through all communication between departments. A successful person in this role will be efficient, compassionate, organized, and adaptable.

OBJECTIVES
- Assist the veterinarian in medical wellness, sick appointments, surgical cases, and dental procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
- Create and review treatment plans with clients along with providing informative and accurate financial information to convert clients to agree to the medical treatment plan for their pet(s) and ensure all medical recommendations are delivered to the patient.
- Proactively handle emergency cases; performing emergency procedures ensuring the best possible medical care for patients.
- Expertly perform clinical laboratory procedures and physical assessments, and appropriately maintain all results and recording to support operational efficiencies.
- Safely operate and maintain working in-house diagnostic equipment and oversee assistants to ensure organized and efficient appointment flow.
- Calculate basic injectable medications, give SQ, IM, and IV injections, and ensure the patient is scheduled for all series and upcoming appointments.
- Assist Veterinarian in the euthanasia process, with compassion and care while ensuring owner needs are met in their overall experience.
- Deliver health certificates, travel certificates, and international certificates to ensure successful travel for the clients and patients.
- Liaise with Saving Paws & Hooves of Central Florida and Trupanion Pet Insurance for qualified patients to ensure the highest medical care is delivered.
- Educate owners on the importance of follow-up appointments, boosters, series injections, rechecks, suture removal, wellness exams, and recommended surgeries and ensure the client is scheduled accordingly.
- Handle Televet virtual appointment flow and scheduling, prepare and perform house calls, and help with phone overflow as needed to ensure excellent customer service.
- Handle Rx prescription approvals for in-hospital, online pharmacies, and client special orders and ensure clients are set up with our online pharmacy.
- Maintain accurate statistics to ensure departmental goals are on target. Adhere to the hospital’s safety and wellness regulations; maintain a safe work environment, follow OSHA and DEA standards.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of DEA flow and the ability to correct any issues for accurate record-keeping and compliance.
- Know the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats.
- Understand the Human-Animal bond, animal behavior, and predictability.
- Understand the life cycle and pathology of common parasites (intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas, ticks).
- Knowledge of parasite preventatives.
- Ability to educate owners on the purpose and benefit of regenerative & stem cell therapy, patient treatment plans, and surgical estimates.
- Knowledge of vaccinations, vaccine schedules, and reactions.
- Knowledge of immunotherapy and regenerative modalities.
- Knowledge and utilization of anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment, and anesthesia drugs.
- Be familiar with zoonotic (contagious) diseases, including their prevention and steps to reduce or eliminate transmission.
- Understanding of all vaccinations and protocols, as well as usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs.
- Knowledge of radiology and ability to successfully attain accurate images.
- Knowledge of how to safely handle fractious animals and how to restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner.
- Knowledge of canine and feline toxins.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years of veterinary experience in the field as a Veterinary Technician or 3 years of a combination of Veterinary Assistant or similar role and Veterinary Technician experience is required.
- Knowledge of veterinary medical and surgical procedures and animal handling is required.
- Active Florida Veterinary Technician Certification - CVT, LVT, or RVT is required.
- Bilingual English & Spanish is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to spend prolonged periods standing, sitting, or walking.
- Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
- Travel Required: Up to 15% for Continuing Education & Training.

Schedule:
- Rotating Day shift, 40 hours per week to be scheduled during business hours.
- Business Hours: Monday to Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday, 8am-1pm.
- Overtime Available.
