Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Veterinary Technician to join our team at Hawthorne Animal Hospital. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and welfare, along with the technical skills necessary to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care. The Certified Veterinary Technician will play a vital role in our veterinary practice, supporting our mission to ensure the health and well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of animals.
  2. Perform clinical assessments and gather information from pet owners regarding health history, symptoms, and behavior to aid in diagnosis.
  3. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  4. Utilize technical skills to conduct laboratory tests, including blood analysis, urinalysis, and cytology.
  5. Monitor and record vital signs of animals before, during, and after procedures.
  6. Manage anesthesia and provide post-operative care for patients recovering from surgery.
  7. Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a sterile environment.
  8. Educate pet owners on animal health, nutrition, behavior, and post-care instructions.
  9. Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  10. Assist with radiology, dental care, and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
  11. Participate in client communication and maintain a positive practice image through exemplary customer service.
Qualifications:
  1. Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program.
  2. Certification/Licensure as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) in Illinois.
  3. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice is preferred.
  4. Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior.
  5. Proficient in performing technical skills and operating veterinary equipment.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  7. Compassionate and dedicated to the care of animals with a strong attention to detail.
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
