Job summary

AdventHealth in Dade City, FL is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team and support sterile field setup and instrument handling for surgical procedures. The role requires strong sterile technique, one year of scrub experience, and CST credentials, with a focus on patient safety.

The position is full-time in a day-shift setting, with the hospital’s commitment to whole-person care and spiritual well-being guiding daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equiv required.
• Technical or Vocational training preferred.
• Associate degree preferred.
• One year scrub experience in a multi-disciplinary surgical service required.
• BLS CPR certification required.
• State CST certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares sterile dressings and cleans instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists team with terminal cleaning and room prep for next patient.
• Handles surgical specimens with accuracy.
• Responds promptly to emergencies during procedures.
• Checks supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Gowns and gloved personnel including the surgeon and assistants.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments and meds for procedures.
• Counts items with circulator before incision and before closing.
• Assists in draping sterile field and passes instruments during surgery.
• Maintains highest sterile technique standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepares sterile dressings and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists other team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient.
• Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy.
• Recognizes and responds immediately to emergency situations appropriately.
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Obtains scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures, displaying knowledge of procedure and patient positioning.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.
• Gowns and gloves the surgeon and assistants.
• Assists in draping the sterile field.
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Able to precept and act as resource person and preceptor in multiple surgical specialties [Preferred]
• Minimum of one year scrub experience in a multi-disciplinary surgical service [Required]
• Demonstrated specialization in one or more surgical areas as determined by Director [Required]
• Proficient in the English language [Required]
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia, surgical site infection prevention, emergency code cart, high and low level disinfection, clinical alarms, medication management, isolation precautions, surgical care of patients age (0-100+), fire safety, AIDET, and SBAR [Required]
• Proficient in a minimum of 3 major surgical specialties [Preferred]

Work Experience

• Work Experience: 1+ years of experience as certified surgical tech [Preferred]

• OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required]
• OR Technician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) [Required]
