The Surgery Department is a dynamic and specialized unit dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients across the age spectrum undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. Our care team collaborates seamlessly to support 4 operating room suites, 2 endoscopy suites, as well as a dedicated OB OR suite. We facilitate diverse procedures across multiple specialties, including ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, pediatric dental, and neurology. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive environment, ensuring the best outcomes for every patient we serve.
The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures. They prepare the surgical suite before and after cases, perform physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding work, and work under stressful conditions in confined spaces. The role includes on-call responsibilities, reordering supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and may involve cross-training in Endoscopy or Interventional Pain procedures. The technologist also performs duties similar to a Central Sterile Processing Technician.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
Requires fifteen (15) hours of continuing education annually to maintain certification.
Certifications:
CPR certification at the earliest opportunity. Surgical Technologist certification required within 90 days of employment.
Skills:
Completion of surgical technologist orientation and skills checklists within three months. Ability to exercise professional judgment, communicate effectively, handle stressful situations, and adhere to sterile techniques and organizational principles.
Training:
Successful completion of orientation, certification within 90 days, and training in Infection Control, Universal Precautions, Hazardous Chemicals, and Body Mechanics.
Prior Work Experience:
Experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
Personal Attributes:
Adaptability to changing environments, knowledge of sterile procedures, organizational skills, and the ability to manage stress and workload effectively.
Physical Abilities:
Sufficient strength to reposition sedated patients of all ages, ability to stand for long periods, fine motor skills, and good communication and sensory abilities.
Safety Standards:
Adherence to PPE protocols, proper hand hygiene, body mechanics, and fit testing for respiratory protection as per WHS guidelines.
