Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA or NCCT).
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, preparation of the operative site, care of specimens, and turnover of the room.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures, demonstrating awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and an adequate knowledge base.
• Demonstrate application of the principles of asepsis, select proper sterilization methods, verify instruments, take corrective action when any unsafe practice or break in aseptic technique occurs, and report to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedures and surgeon preference cards.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up the back table, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.
