Job summary

AdventHealth Minneola Campus is seeking a PRN Surgical Technologist to support the operating room by anticipating surgeon needs, assembling supplies, and maintaining aseptic technique. The role requires BLS and Surgical Technologist Certification, with 2+ years of OR tech experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must understand and communicate in English clearly.
  • Knowledge of aseptic/sterile technique and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with healthcare industry concepts and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies for preferred procedures.
  • Ability to interpret surgeon instructions accurately.
  • Proficient basic computer skills and MS Office.
  • Demonstrated clear communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Responsibilities

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and keeps the circulating nurse informed throughout a procedure.
  • Maintains high standards and quality in facilitating cost savings and containment.
  • Assembles all necessary supplies, equipment, and medications prior to the procedure.
  • Supports customer and employee satisfaction activities; maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff; and responds to complaints in a timely manner.
  • Monitors aseptic technique of the entire surgical team and takes immediate corrective action for any breaks in technique.
  • Identifies and reports environmental concerns to management and ensures adherence to regulatory standards and policies.
  • Supervises other healthcare team members in the surgical environment and assists with orientation, training, and education of new personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]

  • Basic skills related to aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation. [Required]

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry. [Required]

  • Up-to-date knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies to hand surgeons the correct tools during surgeries. [Required]

  • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and laws at various jurisdictional levels. [Required]

  • Ability to understand and process surgeon dictated instructions and directions. [Required]

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills, strong anticipatory skills, and concentration to detail. [Required]

Education
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

  • Associate [Preferred]

  • Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Field of Study
  • Currently enrolled or successful completion of an approved/accredited school for Surgical Technology

Work Experience
  • 2+ years of surgical tech experience in Ortho, Robotic, Urology, Vascular or spine highly preferred.

  • 1+ years relevant experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

  • Surgical Technologist Certification Required

Pay Range

$21.56 - $40.09
