Job description

CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNICIAN - FLEXSTAFF

Responsibilities include:

1. Implementing and communicating the age-specific plan of care, providing thorough reports during shift changes, and coordinating with team members regarding equipment and supplies.
2. Participating in turnover activities, setting up for surgeries, and ensuring adequate supplies for patient care.
3. Monitoring infection control measures, maintaining a sterile environment, and documenting accordingly.
4. Adhering to aseptic techniques, decontaminating instruments, and assisting with sterilization processes.
5. Managing environmental controls and waste disposal appropriately.
6. Performing sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with the RN, and taking corrective actions if counts are incorrect.
7. Ensuring safe use of equipment, assisting surgeons, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
8. Assisting with patient care procedures, specimen labeling, and surgical skin prep.
9. Performing other duties as assigned.

ADA Essential Functions

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one (1) year of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Completion of a nationally accredited surgical technologist program and certification as a CST by NBSTSA.

Alternatively:

• Training in surgical technology through U.S. military service branches or Public Health Service.
• Good standing with NYS regulations.
• BLS certification (preferred).
• Ability to operate effectively in emergencies.
