Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a clinically competent Certified Surgical Technologist to operate under the supervision of the RN and deliver safe intraoperative care. The role interacts with patients and the health care team while maintaining department standards and may support projects or perform administrative tasks as assigned.

• Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Passes instruments to the physician during surgery and tracks instruments and supplies.
• Receives and processes specimens as required for delivery to the laboratory.

Job description

A clinically competent Certified Surgical Technologist who works under the supervision of the RN in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. Effectively interacts with the patient and health care team members, while maintaining the Surgical Department standards. This role may support additional projects, perform administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, medications, solutions, instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies. Ensures availability and functionality of equipment and instruments


• Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.


• Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.


• Receives and processes specimens, if required, for delivery to the laboratory

Required

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
