Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist II to support complex surgical procedures in an academic health center. This full-time, on-site role prepares sterile fields, maintains instruments, anticipates surgeon needs, and ensures safe, efficient perioperative care.

You will collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers, train junior staff, contribute to infection control, and participate in quality improvement and ongoing professional

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and instruments for complex surgical procedures.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and enforce infection control standards.
• Anticipate surgeon and team needs during procedures, passing instruments and supplies efficiently.
• Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse.
• Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping under RN and surgeon direction.
• Operate and care for surgical equipment and ensure proper functioning and sterilization.
• Support orientation and mentoring of junior surgical technologists and students.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers to ensure safe, efficient care.
• Document required perioperative data in compliance with hospital policies.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuing education.

The Certified Surgical Technologist II at the Medical University of South Carolina supports complex surgical procedures within Healthcare & Medical Services. This role prepares and maintains sterile fields, manages instruments, and anticipates surgeon needs to ensure safe, efficient care. Working in an academic health center, the technologist collaborates with an interdisciplinary team, assists in training junior staff, and upholds strict infection control standards.
