Job summary

LCMC Health in Louisiana is seeking a Surgical Technologist for a night shift. The role focuses on maintaining a sterile OR, preparing instruments, and assisting the surgeon with scrub duties. Prior OR experience is highly preferred, with a CST credential and current BLS required.

As a night shift in-house technologist, you will support the surgical team by anticipating needs, ensuring a clean, ready operating room, and upholding aseptic standards throughout procedures.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures with knowledge of anatomy and instrumentation.
• Apply aseptic principles and verify sterile instruments before procedures; report any breaks in aseptic technique.
• Open sterile supplies, instruments and sutures based on procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Follow scrubbing, gowning, gloving, back table setup, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) NBSTSA or NCCT

As a trusted member of the operating room team, your top priority as a Surgical Technologist is a safe surgery for every patient. You’re the watch dog in the OR protecting patients from harm by maintaining a sterile environment. It’s all about preparation and anticipation, ensuring the instrumentation and equipment is there when the surgeon needs it.

On the night shift, your role takes on an added level of independence. You’ll be the Surgical Tech in-house overnight, making your experience, confidence, and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team especially valuable. Previous Surgical Technologist experience is highly preferred for this role.

Your Everyday

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures which reflect awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
• Demonstrate the application of the principles of asepsis and select proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment prior to procedures and verify sterile instruments taking corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks in aseptic technique occur and report information to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up back table, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

The Must-Haves

Minimum

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Certification for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Current BLS certification

Highly Preferred

• Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist in the OR
