Job summary

Logan Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant to join the CVOR team in Kalispell, MT. You will support surgeons in cardiovascular procedures, assist with preoperative patient management, and contribute to high-stakes operations including CABG, TAVR, and valve cases.

Graduate from an approved Surgical Technologist program or military FA-trained, with at least two years of scrub/first assist experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduates of approved Surgical Technologist programs or military training with First Assist certification.
  • Minimum of two years scrub and/or first assistant experience in CVOR procedures.
  • Certification by AST or NCCT is required; First Assistant program Graduate preferred.
  • BLS certification and strong communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during cardiovascular procedures with exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure.
  • Provide preoperative patient management in collaboration with health care providers.
  • Perform surgical duties including bone work under surgeon direction; assist CABG, TAVR, and valve cases.
  • Ensure accurate wound closure and drain stabilization at end of procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to policies and patient confidentiality.

Proficient in multiple service lines required. Must possess CVOR first assist experience in CABG, TAVR and Valves.* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.* Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.* Possess strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task in an ever changing workload environment.* Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.**Job Specific Duties:*** Participates and actively assists the surgeon in the performance of surgical procedures.* Assists with preoperative patient management in collaboration with health care providers. Performs preoperative evaluation and focused nursing assessments. Works in collaboration with other health care providers regarding the patient plan of care.* Provides surgical exposure accurately and appropriately for specific surgical procedures.* Provides hemostasis accurately and appropriately for specific surgical procedures.* Performs skills involving bone (i.e. drills, pins, saw) in orthopedics as directed by the surgeon.* Provides wound closure. To include, but may not be limited to; knot tying, wound approximation, subcuticular closure, skin closure, securing drains.* Assists at the end of the procedure by stabilizing the drain with suture appropriately.* Exhibits a commitment to professionalism while undertaking and completing all departmental competencies. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures and regulatory requirements and professional practice standards for the position.* Proficiently assists in CABG, TAVR, and Valves.* The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification.
