Job summary

LCMC Health Lakeview Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist to join our surgical team on the Northshore. You’ll provide front-row support during operations, assisting surgeons and ensuring instruments and sterile fields are prepared for each case.

The role emphasizes patient safety, mentorship, and ongoing skills development within our robotics program. Prior robotics experience is welcome but not required to foster growth and best practices in our evolving program.

Qualifications

• 2 years of related experience.
• Surgical Technology Diploma.
• NBSTSA Surgical Tech-First Assist certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary surgical assistance to the surgeons during the operative procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
• Use surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their designs and purposes.
• Assure availability of instrumentation and supplies required for the surgical procedure prior to the case.
• Understand and practice sterilization principles, universal precautions, hazardous materials management to process instruments.
• Assist in transporting the patient postoperatively.
• Stay updated on the latest surgical technology, medical terminology and procedures.

Your Everyday

• Provide primary surgical assistance to the surgeons during the operative procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.

• Assure availability of instrumentation and supplies required for the surgical procedure prior to the case.
• Understand and practice principles of sterilization, universal precautions, hazardous materials management to process instruments, equipment and supplies through the stages of decontamination.
• Assist in transporting the patient postoperatively.
• Stay updated on the latest surgical technology, medical terminology and procedures.

The Must-Haves

Minimum

• 2 years of related experience
• Surgical Technology Diploma
• Surgical Tech-First Assist certification through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
