POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) supports the surgical team during cosmetic procedures by maintaining a sterile field and providing the necessary tools and instruments to the surgeon. The CST is responsible for ensuring all surgical equipment is clean, functional, and set up prior to each case. This role plays a key part in maintaining patient safety, efficiency in the OR, and assisting with pre-operative and post-operative workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preoperative Duties:
- Prepare the operating room with sterile instruments, drapes, and supplies needed for each procedure.
- Conduct proper sterilization and inspection of all surgical instruments and trays.
- Collaborate with the OR nurse and surgical team to confirm procedure-specific requirements.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure smooth procedural flow.
Intraoperative Support:
- Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain sterility and monitor for any breaks in sterile technique.
- Handle tissue specimens and assist with suction, retraction, and dressing placement as needed.
- Ensure all tools are accounted for before, during, and after surgery.
Postoperative Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient transfers, room turnover, and post-op cleaning protocols.
- Prepare instruments for reprocessing and initiate sterilization processes.
- Support restocking and inventory management within the surgical suite.
- Sterile processing and decontamination is a must.
Other Duties:
- Support inventory management by tracking surgical supplies and alerting staff of restocking needs.
- Follow all infection control and safety procedures in compliance with industry regulations.
- Participate in training, drills, and continuing education for surgical best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
- Current BLS certification
- 2+ years of experience in a surgical setting, preferably cosmetic or outpatient procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in plastic surgery or aesthetic surgery ORs
- Familiarity with Nextech or EMR systems
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
Working Conditions:
- On-site, full-time role in an accredited, office-based surgical facility
- Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and sharp instruments
- Requires standing for long periods, lifting equipment, and wearing PPE
