Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist for a job in Thornton, Illinois.

Major Responsibilities:

To assist in providing quality patient care in a manner which is patient-focused, technically appropriate, and cost-effective. The Surgical Technologist (ST) works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the Standards of Practice and within the guidelines of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. The ST is responsible for establishing and maintaining a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment as required for the operative procedure. The ST functions as a cooperative healthcare team member in a critical care environment, treating the patient with dignity and respect.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Perform duties in the scrub role as assigned: prepare sterile fields, comply with departmental policies regarding specimens and instrument counts, maintain sterile boundaries, and assist in emergency situations.
  2. Assist in preparing the surgical field, verifying supplies and equipment, assisting with sterile supplies and instruments, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  3. Maintain professional growth by completing assignments, participating in committees, and updating skills.
  4. Support a cooperative work environment, share knowledge, and accept team responsibilities.
  5. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, maintain patient confidentiality, and perform other duties as assigned.
  6. Maintain and support accreditation standards, including certifications and competencies.
  7. Promote patient safety and report issues through established channels.
  8. Serve as a patient advocate, resolve concerns promptly, and utilize referrals as needed.
  9. Participate in hospital committees, projects, and staff development activities.
  10. Maintain certification and CEUs annually.
  11. Contribute to service and quality improvement initiatives, including innovation efforts and cost containment strategies.
  12. Assist with staffing, resource utilization, and productivity improvements.

Additional responsibilities include mentoring staff, participating in educational activities, and supporting hospital strategies to maximize excellence and efficiency.
