Job summary

Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango operates a high-volume surgical program with 9 OR suites, including a labor and delivery room for C-sections. The Certified Surgical Technologist provides scrub support across Spine, Orthopedics, Robotics, Urology, Plastics, ENT, GYN and Ophthalmology, maintaining a sterile field and anticipating surgeon needs in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Colorado DORA registration as a surgical technologist.
• NBSTSA or NCCT certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain sterile technique and sterile field during procedures.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand with instruments for the surgeon.
• Assist in preparation and movement of patients and turnover between cases.
• Pass instruments to surgeons and nurses as needed during the procedure.
• Maintain surgeon preference cards and inventory of instruments and supplies.

Where You'll Work

The Certified Surgical Technologist at Mercy Regional Medical Center serves as a vital member of the surgical team, providing expert scrub support across a diverse range of specialties, including Spine, Orthopedics, Robotics, Urology, Plastics, ENT, GYN, and Ophthalmology. Operating within a high-volume department of 9 OR suites-including a dedicated labor and delivery room for C-sections-you will manage 20-30+ daily cases by maintaining a sterile field, anticipating surgeon needs, and facilitating seamless instrument transitions. Beyond clinical scrubbing, this role is essential to operational throughput, encompassing efficient room turnover, restocking, and the proactive maintenance of surgeon preference cards. Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced surgical team.

• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon's preference card.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Provides on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
• Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

We are offering a $10,000 sign on bonus and up to $10,000 relocation assistance to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements

Schedule: 36hrs/ Week -Variable days per surgical volume and current unit needs

Call Required-Approx 5 call shifts in 6 weeks -1900-0700 weeknights and 700-1900, 1900-0700 on weekends

30min Callback radius required. Sleep rooms available

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
• A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech.
• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

• One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
• Experience in a specialty field
