Job summary

CommonSpirit-Health’s Penrose Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech to support the operating room team in a fast-paced environment. You will organize sterile instruments, maintain sterile technique, and assist surgeons and nurses throughout procedures to ensure patient safety and efficiency.

This role requires current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while communicating effectively with the team during cases.

Qualifications

• Must have active Surgical Tech certification or registration as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Maintain highest standard of sterile technique during procedures and verify counts.
• Pass instruments to surgeons and nurses as needed.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand per surgeon×s preference card.
• Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies, and medications for the procedure.
• Assist with patient positioning and room setup between cases.
• Provide on-call coverage outside standard hours per policy.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced surgical team.

• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Provides on-callcoverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
• Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

We are offering a $10,000 sign on bonus to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
  • A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech.
• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

• One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
• Experience in a specialty field

The Surgery Department at Penrose Hospital has 16 OR suites and performs 30-40 cases per day. We specialize in heart, vascular, general, gynecology, urology, ortho, spine, neuro, plastics, robotics, and trauma procedures on adult patients only.
