Job summary

West Tennessee Healthcare in Paris, TN seeks a Surgical Technologist to aid in the operating room and support physicians. You will assemble supplies, scrub and assist with instrument handling, and maintain sterile technique during procedures.

The ideal candidate has a certified Surgical Technologist credential, BLS, and orientation-based experience in a surgical setting, with ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand long hours.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 9–12 month surgical technology course.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist required.
• Current BLS certification to be obtained during orientation.
• Program accreditation by CAAHEP/ABHES and COE.
• Three months of departmental orientation to scrub during cases.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

Responsible for providing patient care for assigned shift as scheduled. Assembly of supplies needed for surgical procedures specific to Resource Maps/Preference Cards when necessary. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of principles of asepsis ensuring that proper techniques and practices are maintained, in providing age-specific patient care.2. Identifies needed supplies and prepares equipment, packs, and room for patient and procedure, addressing age-specific patient care needs.3. Scrubs, gowns and gloves self and physician for surgical procedures.4. Assists with handling, passes instruments correctly and insures their proper functionality and storage.5. Insures correct sponge, needle and instrument counts.6. Insures proper handling of all lab and tissue specimens according to established protocol.7. Assumes responsibility for proper handling, sterilization and stocking of supplies as needed.8. Relieves on cases at or during change of shift, breaks, or meal times, following correct protocol, to insure continuity of care.9.
