The Surgery Department is a dynamic and specialized unit dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients across the age spectrum undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures. Our care team collaborates seamlessly to support 4 operating room suites, 2 endoscopy suites, as well as a dedicated OB OR suite. We facilitate diverse procedures across multiple specialties, including ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, pediatric dental, and neurology. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive environment, ensuring the best outcomes for every patient we serve.
The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures. This includes preparing the surgical suite before and after cases, performing physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding work, often in confined and stressful conditions. The role involves on-call duties, reordering supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the reprocessing of surgical instruments. The Surgical Technologist may also be cross-trained to assist in the Endoscopy suite or Interventional Pain procedures, performing duties similar to those of a Central Sterile Processing Technician.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. Requires 15 hours of continuing education annually related to surgical technology.
CERTIFICATIONS:
CPR certification obtained at the first available opportunity. Surgical Technologist certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
SKILLS:
Completion of Surgical Technologist orientation and skills checklists within three months. Ability to exercise professional judgment, communicate effectively, and handle stressful situations. Must understand principles of sterile techniques and organizational skills.
TRAINING:
Complete orientation and training in infection control, universal precautions, hazardous chemicals, and body mechanics. Certification required within 90 days.
PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist is preferred.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
Adaptability to changing environments, knowledge of sterile procedures, organizational skills, and the ability to handle stress and patient care demands are essential.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Sufficient strength to reposition sedated patients of various ages, ability to stand for long periods, good hand-eye coordination, and sensory abilities to perform job functions.
SAFETY STANDARDS:
Use PPE for all procedures, maintain hand hygiene, utilize proper body mechanics, and complete TB Fit Test for mask fitting.
