This is a Full-Time, benefits-eligible position.

Position Summary:

The Certified Surgical Technologist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to assist surgeons during invasive and non-invasive procedures, including diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional, and open surgeries. The role involves performing duties according to established standards, participating in patient safety initiatives, and aligning with the Mission and Values of Central Maine Healthcare.

Education and Experience:

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certification as a surgical technologist required within one year of hire.
• Maintain national certification through CEUs or testing.
• Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Essential Duties:

• Make informed decisions within the scope of practice.
• Assist in surgical procedures as the first or second technologist.
• Stay current with procedures, instrumentation, and surgeon preferences.
• Ensure all equipment and instruments are functional before procedures.
• Assist in patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
• Support surgeons with catheter and guidewire manipulation.
• Consult with surgeons for additional items needed.
• Anticipate surgeon needs intraoperatively.
• Follow aseptic techniques for prepping and draping.
• Maintain sterile fields and proper medication handling.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are stocked and functioning.
• Assist with room cleaning and sterilization following procedures.
• Accurately perform surgical counts and report discrepancies.
• Handle and care for instruments and equipment.
• Prepare operating rooms with necessary supplies and equipment.
• Follow aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies.
• Assist with patient safety, privacy, and comfort.
• Communicate effectively with team members.
• Mentor and supervise new staff.
• Adhere to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Provide culturally sensitive patient care, respecting individual needs.
• Maintain professionalism and act as a role model.
