Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Surgical Services, the Certified Surgical Technologist will assist nurses or doctors in providing patient care during surgical procedures and immediate post-operative recovery, following JCAHO, federal, state, and local guidelines, as well as organizational policies. The role requires effective communication with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. The position demands self-motivation, creativity, and the ability to work semi-autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

1. Review schedule, case type, doctor, patient details, and equipment needs.
2. Disinfect and prepare the OR suite per policy.
3. Obtain preference cards, set up equipment and supplies.
4. Follow gowning, gloving, and scrubbing procedures.
5. Support patients, assist with induction and intubation, ensure proper positioning.
6. Assist surgeons with gloving, gowning, and prepping.
7. Apply and adjust sterile lights, maintain sterile field, and anticipate needs.
8. Report and label medications, solutions, and supplies accurately.
9. Assist with sponge counts, handle specimens, and manage patient transport.
10. Clean and maintain instruments and sterilize equipment.
11. Ensure OR cleanliness and organization daily.
12. Adhere to infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
13. Participate in ongoing education and training.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.
• Experience in outpatient and hospital settings; strong communication skills.
• Certification as CST/Scrub Tech required within 12 months of hire; BLS-CPR certification maintained.
• At least two years of hospital experience; OR experience preferred.
