Job Summary

Works in collaboration with surgeons and RNs to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Follows aseptic techniques and provides equipment and supplies based on surgeon and patient needs. Handles instruments according to instructions for use and infection prevention principles.

Essential Functions

• Applies knowledge of Universal Precautions, asepsis, sterile field maintenance, anatomy & physiology, sterilization methods, instrumentation, surgical materials, patient positioning, and transfer methods.
• Understands the rhythm of surgical procedures and the purpose of instruments in sets.
• Decontaminates, cleans, disinfects, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes surgical instruments per instructions.
• Performs point-of-use cleaning and handles instruments carefully, complying with standards.
• Ensures supplies are always available.
• Assists physicians during operative procedures by preparing the operating room, anticipating needs, managing specimens, conducting counts, and transporting equipment.
• Demonstrates knowledge in emergency situations and assists in sterile supply reprocessing.
• Supports teamwork by managing equipment, supplies, and room closure.
• Observes patient safety and adheres to policies, including safety, infection control, and risk management.
• Follows regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Maintains and updates physician preference cards.
• Supports a cohesive work environment, promotes teamwork, and assists colleagues.
• Assists in employee training, orientation, and quality activities.
• Performs additional duties as assigned and complies with policies.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology required.
• 1-3 years of experience in an ASC intraoperative setting; orthopedic experience preferred.
