Job summary

Dayton Children's Hospital is seeking a surgical technologist to support pediatric intraoperative care. You will assist the surgeon, maintain sterile technique, and prepare instrumentation for procedures at the Main Campus with a 36-hour work week.

You will collaborate with nurses, physicians, and the broader team to ensure high-quality patient care, advocate for families, and participate in quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology is required.
• Must graduate from an Accredited Surgical Technology school.
• CST certification preferred; CPR must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in pediatric intraoperative phase following AORN/OSA standards.
• Maintain sterile technique and prepare age-appropriate instrumentation.
• Pass instrumentation and use physician preference cards.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to meet patient/family needs.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and act as patient advocate.

A surgical technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeon in the pediatric intraoperative phase utilizing AORN and OSA standards of practice. Collaborates with other healthcare team members to meet the patients/families needs in a cost-effective manner. Provides customer service for the patients/families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Functions as a team player and practices open communication with a positive flexible attitude. Assists in meeting departmental goals by participating in quality improvement activities. Functions as a role model, change agent, education, coaching, and patient advocate. The role of the surgical technologist includes maintaining sterile technique, preparing for each procedure with age appropriate instrumentation and supplies, utilizing physicians preference cards, and passing instrumentation. Any budgeted position may be required to take call in accordance with the departmental policy. Position will require working both main and south campuses.
