Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Certified Surgical Tech to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures as well as prepare the operating suite with all needed instruments and supplies. The role includes assisting with patient positioning and ensuring all materials are available and functional during surgery.

Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program and certification as a Surgical Technologist within twelve months of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical operating suite with necessary materials.
• Assists in preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Passes instruments to physician during surgery.
• Accounts for instruments and supplies during surgery.
• Receives and processes specimens for laboratory delivery.

Education

The Certified Sugical Tech facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, medications, solutions, instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies. Ensures availability and functionality of equipment and instruments.
• Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
• Receives and processes specimens, if required, for delivery to the laboratory.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) within twelve months of hire
• CPR – Basic Life Support
