Job summary

SCA Health is hiring a Surgical Tech Certified First Assistant to support the preoperative and intraoperative care under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon. The role requires applying aseptic techniques, assisting with tissue handling and exposure, and maintaining patient safety throughout procedures.

Responsibilities include safely positioning patients, assisting with the surgical field, achieving hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
• Graduate from Surgical Tech Program.
• Certification as CSA, SA-C, or CST/CFA through their certifying bodies.
• Must be licensed to practice as a Surgical Assistant in Illinois.
• CPR Certification required.
• Must have one year of Surgical Tech experience.

Responsibilities

• Safely positions patients for the surgical procedure and assists with transport to and from the operative suite.
• Assists surgeon in identifying patient and staff safety hazards.
• Surgical prepping and draping of patients for the surgical procedure.
• Provides exposure of the operative site by the appropriate use of retractors.
• Manipulates equipment and instruments to enhance the visual field.
• Suct ions and sponges to maintain a dry surgical field.
• Provides counter-traction of tissue utilizing various instruments.
• Assists with maintaining hemostasis to reduce potential for fluid volume deficits by clamping / ligating vessels, using electrocautery, and applying dressings as directed.
• Ties and cuts sutures; sutures tissues and closes wounds under supervision.
• Assists and independently applies dressing and tape at the end of the procedure using aseptic technique.
• Maintains current knowledge of procedures performed.
