Job summary

AdventHealth in Castle Rock, Colorado is seeking a Surgical Assistant for PRN Day shift to join our operating room team. You will document patient status, assist with retractors, suction, hemostasis, and wound closure while maintaining asepsis and patient safety.

Qualified candidates have 3+ years OR experience, completed an accredited Surgical Assistant program, and a current BLS certification. Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of general operating room experience.
• Technical/Vocational School training in surgical assisting.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
• Knowledge of asepsis and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response, and outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
• Assists the physician and surgical team with retractors, suctioning, hemostasis, and wound closure.
• Recognizes safety hazards and initiates preventative and corrective actions.
• Assists in safely positioning the patient for required procedures.
• Ensures cleanliness of the care environment and equipment, and proper use of sterile supplies.
• Applies principles of asepsis and infection control in various surgical cases.

Job Description:

• Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response, and outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques related to retractors, suctioning, hemostasis, and wound closure.
• Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective actions.
• Assists the physician and surgical team in safely positioning the patient for required procedures.
• Ensures cleanliness of the care environment and equipment, and proper use of sterile supplies.
• Applies principles of asepsis and infection control in various surgical cases.
• Applies knowledge and maintains efficiency during low-frequency, less familiar cases.
• Anticipates surgeon’s needs and functions without diverting the surgeon's attention from the operative field.
• Maintains focus and technical dexterity while working rapidly and accurately over long periods.
• Performs effectively in stressful and emergency situations.
• Tailors assistance to the personal styles of surgeons to maximize surgical efficiency and outcomes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General knowledge of asepsis, healing, infectious disease process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniques.

Education: Technical/Vocational School [Required]

[Required] Field of Study: an accredited Surgical Assistant program.

Work Experience: 3+ general operating room experience. [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
