Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA, is hiring a Certified Surgical Assistant. The role involves intraoperative duties such as assisting with equipment, retraction, cauterization, suturing, and dressings, plus preoperative and postoperative tasks to support patient care.

A CAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant program graduate is required, along with VA license and BLS certification. Sign-on bonus up to $15,000.

Qualifications

• Graduate of CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant Program.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
• Prior Surgical Assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon with instrument selection and table setup.
• Position equipment and provide retraction for visualization of the surgical site.
• Cauterize bleeding vessels, suture and close incisions.
• Instill medications and apply dressings, splints or casts.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to support patient care.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team to optimize outcomes.
