Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician Non-Certified, under general supervision, will inspect, clean, assemble, test, and process patient care equipment, supplies, and instruments according to established policies, procedures, and manufacturer instructions. They will adhere to standards set by AAMI, JCAHO, CDC, and state regulations. Responsibilities may vary depending on the assigned area.

Essential Functions

• Perform decontamination, including manual cleaning and processing of surgical instruments and patient care equipment per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Use appropriate knowledge of detergents and disinfectants for decontamination, adhering to standard precautions.
• Inventory, stock, and deliver supplies and equipment across the facility, maintaining proper inventory levels and rotating stock to prevent outdates.
• Document quality control activities related to sterilization and infection control, using various IT systems for instrument tracking, surgery schedules, and supply management.
• Operate sterilizers and monitor sterilization processes, ensuring quality through chemical and biological indicators.
• Record all activities accurately and report any variances that could impact patient safety or product sterility.

Minimum Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Licensing & Certifications

• Required: CRCST, HSPA (certification within 2 years of hire), or CBSPD (certification within 2 years of hire)

Experience

• Recent surgical setting experience preferred

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• Work efficiently under pressure, anticipate needs, and communicate effectively with multiple levels
• Proficient in computer skills, critical thinking, and infection control practices
• Possess surgical conscience, professionalism, self-direction, and teamwork

Training

• EPIC experience preferred
