Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to prepare and secure instrument sets for surgical procedures.

You will wrap, label, decontaminate, and inspect instruments, ensuring compliance with Sterile Processing standards and OSHA guidelines. Qualifications include a high school diploma, CSPDT certification, and at least one year of healthcare experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CSPDT certification required.
• Minimum 1 year healthcare experience preferred.
• Successful completion of in-house training within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to foster a team approach and exercise independent judgment.
• Analytical ability to monitor surgical terminology and preferences.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills.
• Ability to lead employees in a productive manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff and the public.
• Follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Wraps, seals, and labels articles for identification, sterilization, and distribution.
• Decontaminates and cleans equipment according to guidelines.
• Inspects instruments for proper working condition.
• Assembles and accounts for all instrument trays.
• Monitors sterilizers by checking indicators and charts.
• Logs data on biological and chemical indicators.
• Completes duties around soiled utility rounds.
• Adheres to OSHA guidelines for a safe work environment.
• Coordinates routine activities between surgical suite personnel.
• Performs duties with focus on customer service and teamwork.
• Knowledge of chemical disinfection and sterilization protocols.
• Able to use computer systems to scan steps of cleaning and sterilization.
• Able to construct case carts per preference cards.
