Education requires a High School Diploma or GED. No prior work experience is required, but certification in Sterile Processing is preferred; one year of SPD experience may substitute for certification.

The Sterile Processing Department within the health care facility is responsible for the delivery of medical surgical instruments that have been properly processed by decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and issued for patient use. The Certified Sterile Processing Technician has chosen and accomplished certification in Sterile Processing.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Experience

No prior work experience required.

In lieu of certification, 1 year- consecutive 12 months experience in a sterile processing department in a hospital setting or has been employed in SPD at THS for 1 year- 12 consecutive months.
